Dayaa Dayaa is a Syrian satirical comedy series in the dialect of the people of the Syrian coast in Lattakia . Its events take place in a simple and poor village called Umm al-Tanafis al-Fawqa.
The episodes of the series were filmed in the mountainous areas of the village of As-Samra located in the Kasab region in the Syrian province of Lattakia , and it includes integrated episodes, but each episode has its own distinct story . Age of digital and technology.
As a fine arts university graduation project in 2011, I’ve created a 2D animation movie inspired by this famous soap opera “Deaa Dayaa”.
The process involved many steps, from character design to the final video editing. Here are the step-by-step process I followed to create this animation movie.
Step 1: Character Design
The first step in creating a 2D animation movie is character design. For this movie, I designed the main two characters, “Asaad” and “Jude”, and other few characters – “Dibe”, “Abu Nader”, “Hassan”. I began by hand-drawing the character model sheets on animation lightbox. The character model sheets serve as a reference. I drew the front, back, and side views of the characters, including all their details, such as facial features, clothing, and accessories.
Step 2: Sculpting the Characters
After drawing the character model sheets, I sculpted the characters using clay. This process allowed me to create 3D versions of the 2D characters, which I used to reference for 2D character animation.
Step 3: Drawing on Adobe Illustrator
The next step was to draw the characters in Adobe Illustrator. Using the character model sheets as a reference, I created digital versions of the characters, including all their details. I also created backgrounds that I used in the animation.
Step 4: Creating Movements in Adobe Edge Animate
Once I had the characters and backgrounds in digital form, I began creating the movements. Using Adobe Edge Animate, I created animations for generic walks, runs, sneaks, and jumps movements. I created different movements for each character, giving them unique personalities and characteristics.
Step 5: Mixing the Audio
After the animation was complete, I mixed the audio. I took the characters voices, the sound effects & the music from the soap opera & add them to the animation, created an immersive experience for the viewer. The audio was an essential element in bringing the animation to life.
Step 6: Final Video
Finally, I created the final video by combining all the elements. I edited the animation, audio, and transitions together to create a cohesive story. I refined the animation to ensure that the characters moved smoothly and that the story flowed well. I also added titles and credits to the final video.
Creating a 2D animation movie for my fine arts university graduation project was very hard project. I spent more than 6 months creating it. My attention to details and creativity allowed me to create a unique and engaging animation that I’ll remember for for years to come.
